Kokedama Workshop

Kokedama Workshop

Kokedama (moss ball) is a Japanese art form of living sculpture suspended in air.

Very similar to bonsai, the plant and roots of a kokedama are contained in a small space. Its form and preparation represents the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic principles, defined as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.”

With guidance from instructor Cathrina Susoev (the Kokedama Mama), participants will learn how to make a kokedama using a variety of beautiful plants and take home the finished product at the end of class. All supplies, as well as instructions for assembly and care, are included.

Watercolor Fundamentals Part 2 (Class 1 of 6)

This next series will build on what we learned in Part 1, quickly refreshing some techniques and then applying them in our paintings. We will create more complex landscape paintings, skies and seascapes; wet-into-wet and wet-into-dry nature studies in a few different ways, and we will venture further into painting from our imaginations. We will explore abstraction and non-representational styles, where we don't look at something and try to paint it, but instead work intuitively with colors and shapes and let the paintings emerge and evolve from there. You don't have to know where you're going, enjoy the journey and see where it takes you!

This class is designed for adults 18+

class sizes are limited to 7 people, please register early

$270 for 6 classes, 2.5 hours each class
Payable via check, cash, or Zelle.

Brushes, palettes, set-ups, and paint will be provided.
There will be a materials fee of $15 plus tax for the series.

Learn or refresh your understanding of brush handling, brush care and setting up, the benefits of “good paper”, watercolor lights and darks, flat and graded washes, wet-on-wet techniques such as charging, wet-on-dry techniques such as glazing, color wheel, color theory, color mixing, and more. Simple applications of these techniques invite you to experiment and play.

Children's Art & Gardening Six Week Program (Class 1 of 6)

My name is Leilani (she/her) and I will be the instructor of this 6 week adventure. You may have seen me floating around the farm stand before, going on about my love for art, gardening, and teaching youth. This course is a little mix of all three, as I have taken inspiration from my education at UC Santa Cruz (B.A., Agroecology), my time working at Tenfold Farmstand, and my days spent teaching art at different schools to create a course that’s equally educational as it is fun and creative. We'll be starting seeds, transplanting, watering and weeding, composting, creating art from the garden (like flower bouquets and mud pies), and getting plenty of exercise!

Children's Art & Gardening Six Week Program (Class 5 of 6)

The workshop will begin with a calming mind-body centered movement meditation, Self-Breema.

The class size is limited to 12 students, so please reserve your space as soon as possible.

Pre-registration is necessary.
